Affordability was the key issue as tenants from Central Fife met ahead of a crunch meeting with Fife Council.

Community safety was another hot topic as Fife Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations held events across the Kingdom.

Twenty questions raised will be put to the council at the Tenant Gathering in Dean Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy on Thursday October 6.

Alex Condie MBE, chair of the associations, said: "It’s clear from these events that our members want to know what the council is doing to ensure that even the most disadvantaged tenants can afford to pay their rents without having to further cut back on other essential requirements.

"They are concerned that rents along with other household bills continually rise at levels that outstrip any rise in household income and are very aware that this can’t continue.

"The clear messages from the events were that any increase in rent impacts disproportionately on their feeling of security."

Ahead of the gathering, Mr Condie stated: "The tenants are asking for no waffle!

"We want to make sure our members – and indeed all tenants – get clear answers to the questions they’re raising about rent.”
