An author has presented a cheque worth over £1000 to various local charities with money made from people purchasing his new book.
George McPherson, a protection specialist, has made the generous donation after 410 people purchased his latest book, “Tall Tales Fae the Haw an' Beyond”.
He commented: “I go to clients’ houses to write their wills and help them arrange Power of Attorneys as well as advise clients how to protect their assets such as houses. During the pandemic, and with lockdown in force my wife Maureen (Mo) asked me what I intended to do with my time.
“Write a book or two.” I replied. She waited on the punchline and when none was forthcoming, she knew I was deadly serious. I’ve almost finished my fourth book.”

'Tall Tales fae the Haw an’ beyond' is a collection of around 90 short stories about growing up in the Cooper Ha’ housing scheme. It also has tales about a lot of the pubs of that time. There’s one story about Lady Gaga and two about Billy Connolly.
The cheque handover took place last Tuesday, February 13, at Lochgelly Town Hall. The book has received some positive comments so far.
Pete Maguire wrote: “George, what a book, I couldn’t read some of it without tears running down my face. It’s an excellent read pal. Just about finished it, I don’t want it to end. LOL.”
Rab MacDonald wrote: “Tall Tales Fae the Haw will almost certainly bring back some happy memories to all its readers, even those who never grew up in the Haw or in Scotland will find it funny, interesting, and hilarious. Well done, George, it’s been years since I’ve read a book or even a newspaper.”
The charities and organisations that received a donation are Lo'gelly Lunches, Bowhill Games, Zodiac School of Dance, Lochgelly Children's Gala, Benarty Companion Club, Cowdenbeath Children's Gala, Benarty Pantomime, Lochgelly High School music department, Benarty Children's Gala, Kelly Lawrie Fund, Save the Cage in memory of Gordon Mackie, and Gary Hopton Keep Kinglassie Braw Fund.

George would like to give a special mention to several people - George Mackie who designed the front and back covers, Scott Davidson and Jimmy Rutherford who volunteered to help deliver some books, his brother Podge, who supplied the funds to allow people have a cuppa and a cake, and his printer BookPrintingUK, who sent an extra 10 books free of charge when George told them about the charities.
George would like to thank Lea McLelleland for helping him to organise the presentation and Dick Campbell for giving up his time to open up proceedings.
Most of all he would like to thank all the people who came along to the cheque handover and who made it a truly lovely occasion.
