A soldier was caught drink-driving when his car ended up stuck in a field.
Andrew Foley tried to do a runner when police arrived at the scene but was caught as he fled.
As a result, Foley, 31, of Kirktoun Gardens, Ballingry, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on February 18 at Leuchatsbeath Drive, Cowdenbeath, he drove having consumed excess alcohol. His reading was 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.
Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said that at around 11pm the police were called by a member of the public who had seen a car which had gone into a field. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle with Foley standing next to it.
“He said he had been trying to turn the vehicle and it had become stuck,” added the depute.
Foley then ran off but was apprehended by the officers.
Defence solicitor Alan Davie said: “He had gone to a pub and for some reason he agreed to drive someone home. He was trying to turn at the entrance to a field when this happened.”
He added that his client is a lance corporal in the army but could be demoted because of the offence.
“It was a case of very bad decision-making,” he added.
Sheriff Wylie Robertson fined Foley £840 and imposed a 12-month driving ban.
