PLANS for an Airbnb at a former quarry near Oakley have been re-submitted to Fife Council.

Local resident Kenny McCallum's proposals were knocked back in December but he has addressed the reasons for refusal and tried again.

The revised application is for a self-catering holiday chalet on a disused quarry to the north of the A907 and east of Sir George Bruce Road.

A supporting statement from his planning agent, Stuart Hannah, explained: "The proposed holiday accommodation will be used as an Airbnb as a small business opportunity.

"The applicant has confirmed that the building will only be in use for 10 months of the year and will only be used as holiday accommodation and not a permanent residence."

Rejecting the application in December, the council said the proposed development was "unjustified" and would "fail to protect the overall landscape quality of the surrounding countryside".

Mr Hannah described the reasons for refusal as "not reasonable".

He said the area was "already considered to be a viable and attractive location for tourists and holidaymakers" and the low level, flat roof accommodation would be virtually hidden from the road and "would not result in a detrimental impact on the rural landscape".

It would also have renewable technologies, such as air source heat pumps, and improve the look of the site which was not prime agricultural land and was currently used for storing building materials and general rubble prior to recycling.

Mr Hannah wrote: "The applicant already operates a small successful self-catering tourism related business from outside the Fife area.

"This business has increased due to the demand for rental holiday chalets, however it would suit our client's needs better to bring this business closer to home to reduce travelling and making the management process more efficient."

There is an existing access from the A907 and the plans include fencing, hardstanding and landscaping.

If approved there will be two parking spaces.
