IN the four weeks since Fife’s mobility equipment campaign was launched, over 138 pieces have been collected from participating recycling centres across the Kingdom.

The response across the Kingdom has varied, with more populated areas such as Kirkcaldy, Methil and Dunfermline seeing a good number of returns. The North East of Fife has seen the lowest level of returns so far.

The items retrieved range from small items, with a purchase value ranging from only a few pounds, such as crutches, to items that cost hundreds such as powered bath lifts.

Other items returned include height adjustable seating systems, shower stools, commodes, bed rails and various pieces of mobility equipment. The teams are also collecting a number of wheelchairs and these are being returned to the NHS Fife’s wheelchair service, realising greater savings.

Cllr Andrew Rodger, Chair of the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership Board said: “There was a great response to our launch and the last few weeks have seen a flurry of activity. Thank you to everyone who has responded so far. We know there are over 160,000 pieces of assistive equipment sitting in homes across Fife. We want to encourage as many people as possible to take items, which are no longer needed, to their nearest participating recycling centre. We need people to play their part and return un-used items so we can keep people able, supported and independent.”
