THE efforts of Lochgelly Community Council to encourage illegal dumping in the town is a laudable one which deserves support from the public.

The recent problems behind the War Memorial in Bank Street, really underlined how when one person decides to dump something, more can join in and an unsightly mess can grow.

At a time when there is so much positive going on in the town it is disappointing that some people still think it is all right to throw litter about and worse, put old sinks behind the War Memorial.

The thing was that the decision by the irresponsible people to start contributing to the 'mess' came at a time when the Beautiful Fife judges were starting to move about the county in their search for the Kingdom's best kept communities.

Not that this would bother them for the people that do these sort of things do really have much civic pride.

It is a case of getting rid of what is their problem ASAP.

If Lochgelly is lucky the mess may have been removed before the judges came to town but what this does is negates the work of the Growing in Lochgelly activists.

Since the early spring this new group of local environmentalists have been making huge improvements to Lochgelly with the Bank Street area receiving a lot of treatment.

The flower features are quite striking and making a massive difference to the middle part of the town.

Lochgelly has never featured in the Beautiful Fife competition so 2016 is a big year.

Hopefully the willing volunteers who have made a real difference to Lochgelly with their hard work will be rewarded by a suitable star rating for the town.

What the dumpers forget is that the people who are making the town look better do all this free of charge and indeed raise funds to pay for the plants and compost and features that are filled.

So come on dumpers take your rubbish to the Recycle Centre that is situated at the north end of the town and help make Lochgelly beautiful.
