I WOULD imagine regular users of the recycling centres at Cuddyhouse Road, Cowdenbeath, and Cartmore in Lochgelly will be happy with the moves to ensure that commercial operations use the infill site at Dunfermline to dump unwanted items rather than the local sites.

Both Cuddyhouse Road and Cartmore are both very good recycling centres and provide an ideal place for householders to recycle material.

But when the vans and small lorries of commercial operators come along it can pose inconvenience for the domestic users.

That will change from October 3 when commercial users will not be allowed into the sites.

But the concerns aired by people at Cowdenbeath Area Committee about possible increases in fly-tipping are certainly something that needs to be taken on board.

Even just now there are plenty of incidences of fly-tipping in the district.

Indeed, there have been problems on the Cuddyhouse Road with rubbish being just thrown about on the grass verges while on Hill Road, Ballingry, there has been rubbish thrown about.

Now, most commercial users of the current recycling centres will rightly go to the very well appointed Lochhead Tip at Wellwood in Dunfermline to dump the items they no longer want, but inevitably some may not and simply dump where they can.

How things will pan out no one really knows at this stage but the important thing is that the authorities keep their eyes on what is going on and if there needs to be action taken on fly-tipping then so be it.

Hopefully that will to be needed but fly-tipping does nothing for the image of the area.

Community cafe idea praised

THE community cafe idea created by Fife Housing was a very interesting venture and it allowed those living in Johnston Park, in Cowdenbeath, the chance to find out what options there are to sort out problems being experienced with unadopted pavements.

These sort of ventures can also be useful for local councillors to attend and get information on problems affecting local residents.

Maybe it might not be a bad idea for Fife Council to hold these sort of get-togethers for tenants?
