TWO good away performances has given Cowdenbeath the chance to make it three wins in a row when they take on Stirling University at Central Park on Saturday.

The Blues have lost twice to the Students this season, in league and cup action, but manager Calum Elliot is looking for his men to get a result this weekend.

Commenting on the win at Gala Fairydean, last weekend, he said: “We made an uncertain start to the game, and Josh Blair’s eighth minute penalty save, gave us the inspiration to start creating a lot of chances and it was good to see Daryl Healy get his first league goals for the club.

“He has a lot of good attributes and I believe he can be a very good player for Cowdenbeath as we look ahead.

“We could have been at least four up at the break, as we put together many good moves, and regularly opened up the Fairydean defence.

“It was a little disappointing not to score more, and to be fair to Gala they came back into the game in the second half, but we saw it out well to get the win.

“Now we will have to concentrate hard on producing a very good performance to get a result against the University, who we have lost to twice this season.”

Added the manager: “The football programme at Stirling University attracts very good players, and on their day they are one of the best teams in the Lowland League, but if we produce our best form we can stand up to them.

“We have not been at our sharpest in the previous league game with them, and the League Cup tie, but it is up to us to produce our best form this Saturday, as we want to keep our winning run going.”

Cowden picked up a couple of injury issues at Netherdale, but Elliot hopes he will have the vast majority of his squad available for the task of tackling Uni, who are five points ahead of the Blues, with a game more played.

Cowden are currently on 36 points, the same tally they managed in the whole of last season, so a good finish to this term will see them move well up the table.

One player who will not be available for the Uni game is striker Josh Jack, who was released by mutual consent last week.

“Josh approached me and wanted to be given a commitment to being a first choice every week, but that was not something we could give, and he has been given the opportunity to try for that at another club,” said Elliot.
