SATURDAY’S East of Scotland football card saw just three fixtures and it produced a mixed bag of results.

There was a welcome win for Lochore Welfare, while Dundonald Bluebell picked up a point but Crossgates Primrose went down at home to Tynecastle.

Haddington Athletic 2, Dundonald Bluebell 2.

THE ‘Bell made it ten games undefeated with this Premier League point in East Lothian, but it was a game that could have been won.

Dundonald started the game well, and went ahead in 20 minutes, when Luke Kennedy found Regan Lumsden with a good pass and he made an expert job of the finish.

However, the Athletic started to get into the game and some slack defending gave the home side the opportunity to level the game.

Then soon after, more sloppy work at the back by the Moorsiders saw Haddington grab an interval lead.

The second period saw Dundonald start to dominate possession, and on the hour, Josh Barbour created the chance for Lumsden to square the game.

This saw the momentum of the game flow Dundonald’s way and a Lumsden header saw the home ‘keeper produce a fine save, and twice Calum Smith went close to a winner, before Kieran Hall also had a chance to clinch the points.

The result leaves Bluebell on 34 points, from 20 games, in eight place, but only eight behind fifth top Sauchie with four games in hand, and manager Stephen Husband was a little disappointed not to narrow the margin further: “We were a little sloppy midway through the first half, but in the second period we dominated possession.

“We created a lot of chances, and it was a little annoying not to win on Saturday to get closer to the leading clubs.”

Crossgates Primrose 1, Tynecastle 3.

AFTER their morale boosting win in the Premier League at Hill of Beath Hawthorn last Tuesday night, Crossgates were looking to follow it up with a home success against Tynecastle.

They had a strong looking side out, and started the game pretty well, creating a couple of decent chances, but not converting them.

Tynecastle started to pose a few problems for the home side and in 26 minutes went ahead.

This gave the visitors confidence and they started to create openings, and in 32 minutes doubled their lead.

The second period saw the Edinburgh side start to play a but more freely and on the hour they added a third goal.

However, ten minutes later a red card saw Tynecastle reduced to ten men and Primrose started to pose the visitors problems and they were unlucky not to pull one back.

Crossgates kept battling and with 89 minutes Marley Sweenie-Rowe did reduce the deficit but they could not add to their tally.

The result leaves Primrose on 16 points, from 22 games, four short of safety with eight games left to play.

Lochore Welfare 2, Whitehill Welfare 0.

THIS East of Scotland First Division battle of the Welfares saw the Lochore version get the result they wanted to put more distance between them and the relegation threatened clubs.

Mid-table Whitehill had the gale force wind behind them in the first-half and they saw a lot of the ball with Lochore having to defend very solidly to stay level.

Hard work by the home side, and some good goalkeeping, ensured that the hosts turned around level.

Eight minutes into the second period the local Welfare went ahead when Ewan Sutherland produced a fine piece of finishing.

This lifted Lochore confidence levels and they started to look for another goal and nine minutes further on it came when Joe Kirby gave the Whitehill ‘keeper no chance.

The visitors were toiling now and Lochore created a number of chances but some fine defending by Whitehill kept the margin to two.

The result takes Lochore on to 20 points, from 17 games, and ten points above the bottom two sides in the drop zone, Oakley United and Vale of Leithen.
